It was a real moment of 'nachess' when I opened the morning newspaper and I read that our wonderful CHW Hadassim graduate who also successfully completed our Women's Leadership Program, Oshra Yosef-Friedman was appointed Deputy Direct General of the Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women.

This is the highest position that a woman from Ethiopian descent has ever held within Israel's Office of the Government Ministries and National Authorities.

I immediately called Oshra to congratulate her on this wonderful achievement, wished her good luck and expressed how proud all of us at WIZO are of her.

Born in Ethiopia and the youngest of nine children, Oshra came to Israel with her family as a child during Operation Moses. A graduate of CHW Hadassim School in Even Yehuda, the first signs of Oshra’s tremendous leadership abilities became apparent during her high school years.

When I spoke to Ze’ev Twitto, Director of CHW Hadassim, told me that when Oshra studied here at the school, she constantly helped promote the Ethiopian community in Israel, where she also hosted a social-educational television program.

I am deeply proud of Oshra, who in my eyes represents all that is good at WIZO – an organization that does not only empowers youths and women but inspires them help others.

Mazal Tov, Oshra – and Be’hatzlacha!
