The lives of these students have been far from charmed, but their charms shone through at their graduation celebration.

I like to say that behind every smile there is a story - and nowhere does this statement ring more true than in the smiles on the faces of our graduates.

These smiles were at the center of a very emotional graduation ceremony of the 2018 graduating class of the WIZO Secondary Vocational School (sponsored by WIZOuk) which is located in the Beit HaKerem neighborhood of Jerusalem.

I was completely enthralled by the talent and poise of the 15 graduates of the 12th grade who will now go out into the world equipped with confidence and valuable tools for a successful, happy life. The students put on a magnificent show for the assembled guests, which characterized their gratitude to the school that has truly been a lifesaver in their young lives.

The graduates paid a warm tribute to their teachers, track (megamot) tutors, therapists, social workers, school principal Michal Gottesman, and of course, the director of the Rebecca Sieff Center for the Family, Kobi Hillel for setting them on a straight course to happiness and fulfilment - the very things they were all so sadly lacking when they first entered the school.

In my address, I applauded the staff of the school for their blessed work, likening them to the proverbial candle that burns itself out to light up the world for others. This, I believe is the essence of our WIZO endeavours.

At the end of the show, before the delicious refreshments made, of course, by the cooks on the school's award-winning cooking track, the school staff paid a warm tribute in song to the graduates.

Every single person in the audience, myself included, was visibly moved by this wonderful celebration of the fruits of our joint success.

I wish each of these talented graduates many more years of success and self-fulfillment - their future now looks ever so bright!
