As an educator, I have always believed that the only way to make a lasting change in the world is through education.

It is through WIZO's commitment to providing equality of opportunities in education that we have been able to turn lives around of hundreds of thousands of people in Israel for more than 98 years.

These miracles we perform in the classrooms and outside of them, where we work to help all of our students to fulfil their full potential and give back to their community.

Only recently, we have had many moments of nachess when our institutions and students received various awards and prizes.

One of them is Eliahu Sharvit, one of our 11th grade students from WIZO Vocational School in Jerusalem, sponsored by WIZOuk, who has won the National Excellence Award.

Eliahu, who is currently following the school's unique cooking program, received the award from President Reuven Rivlin and Minister of Education Naftali Bennett at a special ceremony in Jerusalem celebrating 70 years of education in Israel.

Eliahu is a living example of how every one of our students can overcome every challenge and difficulty they have as long as they receive the support, guidance and help they need.

Even before his arrival, Eliahu had led a troubled life due to his family's situation.

Since a very young age, he spent long and prolonged periods living outside of his family home.

Trouble did not stop when Eliahu joined our school. Over the entire period, he has been dealing with various personal difficulties. Despite all these challenges, our staff who guided him through these hard times, witnessed an immense improvement in his behavior and ability to deal with complex situations.

With the right assistance, Eliahu found his love for trying new courses, such as literature, cosmetics and baking, and became an inspiration through his volunteering work.

He has even been able to combine his love for animals and volunteerism when he joined a special dog-training course and soon was promoted to become an instructor in a local dogs shelter.

As part of this voluntary role, he looks after dogs and enables children with low cognitive ability play and get to know their canine friends.

Through our work not only do we help each of our students fulfil their ability but set in motion a chain of reaction that in turns inspires more and more people to make their dreams come true.

This is how we create stronger Israeli society.

We are very proud of Eliahu for this outstanding, national achievement! His accomplishment is not just a moment of nachess but a national acknowledgement of his success and of the life-changing work WIZO does every day.
