Over 400 guests danced the night away at the traditional WIZO Austria Ball held last month in Vienna. Hosted by WIZO Austria and Young WIZO Austria, the elegant event took place in the Vienna City Hall, donated for the evening to WIZO by the municipality. One of Austria’s most popular entertainers, Alfons Haider moderated the evening, also donating his time and talent to WIZO.
The breathtaking opening ceremony (see photos) is an old tradition for Austrian balls – where community volunteers, the women in long white dresses and the men in tuxedos, perform a variety of formal dances.
Among the many guests were Mrs. Merav Zofari Odiz, Ambassador to the IAEA and CTBO, and Oskar Deutsch, President of the Austrian Jewish Community and Lotte Tobisch, an icon of the Austrian theater, who is over 90 years old. International guests hailed from as far as San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Zurich and the Ukraine.
Wonderful music by the Israeli band “Shai Barak” created a magical atmosphere. A great social and fundraising success, proceeds from the event will go to the WIZO day care center in Modi'in sponsored by WIZO Austria.
An "after party" took place at a festive lunch at the home of WIZO Austria President Hava Bugajer, in honour of Alfons Haider and Hava’s dream team of organizers. ”Even the sun came out for the day,” joked Hava, testifying to the event's popularity - proven by the fact that attendees are already asking when next year's event will take place.
