WIZO Ruth, a group of Christian Zionist women in Cape Town who are committed to the betterment of Israeli society, held their first meeting of 2019. They hosted guest speaker Michal Ilan, Cape Town's community Shlicha, who promotes increased connections to, and a greater understanding of, Israel and Jewish heritage.
WIZO Ruth also celebrated the 30th birthday of Aviv Ruth member, Siobhan Tatum Swart. Her father, Steve Swart is an MP for The African Christian Democratic Party. The group were treated to a sneak preview of Siobhan's dress, which she then wore to the Parliaments State of Nation Address 2019 at Parliament. The stunning dress was emblazoned with a powerful message of 'Restoration of the Rainbow Nation. A Declaration of Faith.' Biblical passages were interwoven with the Menorah and was surrounded with the beautiful flora and fauna of Africa, all framed by a beautiful rainbow. The symbolism of the rainbow and the message of the dress highlighted The Rainbow Nation of post-apartheid South Africa, a term coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
