On a cold winter’s night many members of the community came together with a combined commitment to support Israel not only financially, but emotionally too, as a country always living on the brink.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the attendees to have an informal and intimate chat with Sarah Sofer, a well-travelled, intelligent woman who was deeply interested to get to know her audience.  She encouraged all present to share something about themselves and their identity, values and thoughts, resulting in an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other in a deeper way.

Sarah remarked on the fact that Australia is so very far from Israel yet Australians are so dedicated to Israel’s welfare.  Her honesty in talking about both the good and not-so-good aspects of life in Israel brought a rare insight into how Israeli’s cope day to day

She spoke of the increasing gap between rich and poor – something we have been aware of as the demands on not-for-profit organisations is ever increasing.

Well done to the presidents of WIZO and NCJW for putting this event together.  In a small community, it is heart-warming to see two organisations co-operating for a common cause.
