My name is Emily Schaerf, I am from New Jersey and study at the University of Connecticut. After visiting Israel on three organized trips prior to this summer, I knew that I needed to find a way to come back to spend my summer here. Luckily, I got opportunity to do so while interning for World WIZO in the Fundraising Division. As a participant of the Onward Israel Northern New Jersey Program based in Bat Yam, I was introduced to this phenomenal organization. After interviewing with Annette Crandell, I could sense the warmth and passion that each individual brings to WIZO and I knew that this was going to be a one of a kind experience.
I have always been passionate and involved with my local Jewish communities, volunteering specifically supporting poverty stricken youth/families. This organization combines these two on a global scale and elicits remarkable change for so many individuals. Having had the chance to visit many of WIZO's projects to see first-hand how WIZO changes lives, I have been amazed.
My time here has been inspiring and eye opening to say the least. I look forward to learning more and supporting WIZO after my internship back in New York. I am grateful to have had the opportunity of a lifetime here in Tel Aviv this summer and the chance to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
