Investing in Excellence: How WIZO Youth Villages Empower Young Athletes

At WIZO Youth Villages, competitive sports are not an extracurricular activity but a powerful educational tool.
Through structured Sports Academies and a range of competitive and educational sports programs, WIZO enables young people to pursue athletic excellence alongside a full academic education, within a stable, values-based boarding school environment.
By combining education, sport, and personal mentorship, WIZO ensures that talented students—many of whom come from complex or vulnerable backgrounds—are given the opportunity to grow, succeed, and build a secure future.
Excellence in Sport, Education, and Values
WIZO operates Sports Academies at selected Youth Villages, including WIZO Nahalal andWIZO Hadassim.
While the academy at Nahalal is well established, the academy at Hadassim—though newer—already provides students with professional frameworks that integrate high-level sports training with strong academic expectations.
The Sports Academy model offers boys and girls the opportunity to engage in competitive sports, from intensive daily training to participation in national competitions, while completing full matriculation studies.
Academy Services Include:
- Professional Facilities – Sports facilities meeting competitive and national standards
- Management & Coaching – An Academy Director and a professional coaching staff across disciplines
- Holistic Support – Emotional and mental guidance, including support from a specialist sports psychologist
- Medical & Nutritional Care – Physiotherapy services and clinical nutritional counseling
Sports Disciplines at WIZO Academies:
Football (Soccer), Basketball, Archery, Athletics, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Cycling.
At WIZO Nahalal, students competing at national levels such as in basketball, shooting, and other disciplines, benefit from a holistic framework that recognizes the demands of high-performance training while maintaining rigorous academic standards.

A national champion in Archery describes how sport shapes her far beyond competition: “I know that everything I learn through sport will serve me in every area of life. The discipline, focus, and mental strength I develop here help me succeed both in training and in my studies.”
Balancing daily training, competitions, and full matriculation studies is demanding, yet the structured educational framework makes it possible. “Studying at the youth village allows me to focus on sport without giving up on my future. There is a supportive system here that understands what I need.”
A teenage basketball player describes long days that include training before and after school: “There are very long days, but I know that everything I do is moving me forward.”
With the support of educators, coaches, and mentors, students learn time management, responsibility, and long-term commitment.
Creating Opportunity Through Structure and Belonging
Alongside its formal Sports Academies, WIZO Youth Villages offer a variety of competitive and educational sports programs, allowing students to pursue excellence in their chosen discipline even when they are not enrolled in an academy framework.
These programs combine professional training with the full boarding school environment, ensuring that students receive academic continuity, emotional support, and a strong sense of belonging.
For one competitive cycling athlete, moving to the boarding school marked a turning point: “The boarding school was the academic and social change I needed. I found a place here that supports me, even when things are difficult.”
The structured balance between studies in the morning and training in the afternoon—combined with close educational guidance—helped her develop independence, confidence, and personal responsibility. “I discovered a community that believes in me.”
In Alignment with the WIZO Graduate Profile
Across both the Sports Academies and the broader sports programs, WIZO emphasizes:
- Leadership & Esprit de Corps – Embracing the responsibility of representing the organization and the country, while serving as role models and sources of inspiration
- Excellence – Developing perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and long-term commitment
- Gender Equality – Promoting equal opportunities for girls and boys in sports, particularly in competitive frameworks
Ensuring Excellence Across All WIZO Sports Frameworks
WIZO is committed to maintaining consistently high standards across all sports frameworks. This includes unified professional guidelines, investment in trained coaching and educational staff, partnerships with national sports federations, upgraded facilities and equipment, and expanded academic and emotional support systems.
This comprehensive approach ensures that excellence does not depend on location—and that every student, regardless of the youth village they attend, has access to the same level of opportunity, care, and professional guidance.

Building Futures Through Education and Sport
At WIZO Youth Villages, sport is a means rather than an end. It is a way to teach responsibility, resilience, teamwork, and self-belief—while ensuring that every student completes a meaningful educational journey.
Through strong educational frameworks, Sports Academies, and diverse competitive sports programs, WIZO continues to create environments where young people can thrive academically, socially, and personally—today and in the years to come.
