MOR 2025: A Week of International Significance

The MOR unfolded against the backdrop of major international events, including the ceasefire and hostage deal and a new administration in the U.S.
At the heart of January stood MOR Week, bringing together representatives from WIZO federations worldwide. In an uplifting journey of unity, friendship, and pride, we explored and deeply connected with WIZO’s extraordinary work and its profound impact on Israeli society. It was a week filled with remarkable energy, eye-opening experiences, and critical discussions—an unparalleled gathering that united voices from across the globe.
This significant WIZO week unfolded against the backdrop of major national events, including the ceasefire in Gaza, the hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, the release of the first three hostages, and the resignation of the IDF Chief of Staff, all while a new administration took office in the U.S.—all within a single week.
Throughout MOR Week, we experienced both joy and emotional intensity as Israeli hostages returned home from Gaza. This was no simple deal but one of immense cost—painful concessions and difficult compromises. While a third of the hostages were included in the agreement, twice as many remain captive, their fate uncertain. In exchange for the return of hostages, Israel has had to release hundreds of convicted terrorists, allow Hamas to maintain control in Gaza, and withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor, which had ensured Israeli oversight of Gaza’s borders. The heavy security toll Israel is paying has led to Arab media proclaiming Hamas’ victory and Israel’s defeat.
Yet, what they see as victory, we see as loss—and vice versa. Those celebrating Hamas’ so-called triumph are securing a bleak future under a ruthless terrorist regime that brutalizes its own people and is condemned worldwide. Gaza cannot rebuild until the last hostage is freed and Hamas’ rule is dismantled, leaving its residents to suffer in continued poverty and despair.
For us, the return of hostages is not a loss—it is a profound national moment, reflecting the very essence of Israeli society, where every individual matters. A society that cherishes life, upholds mutual responsibility, and fights relentlessly for its people, even when it means striking painful deals with the devil. There is no greater moral or human victory than reuniting daughters with their parents, grandparents with their families, and communities with their kidnapped loved ones. Despite its risks and costs, the agreement enjoys broad support in Israel, proving the deep moral strength and national pride that define Israeli society.
This unwavering commitment to protecting each individual is what connects these defining historical moments to our own WIZO journey—where each of us plays a role in shaping the greater national story.
With a sense of optimism and gratitude, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all our MOR guests for an extraordinary week, a truly empowering experience, and for looking ahead with hope.
Warm regards,
