During Operation Rising Lion, WIZO’s Parents’ Home in Tel Aviv stood as a vital refuge for Holocaust survivors and elderly residents—many of whom found themselves reliving old traumas as new threats emerged.

“As rockets echoed across the country and uncertainty filled the air, WIZO’s nursing home became a haven,” said Sharon Zigdon, Director of the facility.
“When a blast shattered the lobby windows, it wasn’t just glass that broke—it stirred painful memories. We responded immediately, repairing the damage and offering emotional support. I stayed overnight to reassure residents. Our residents are family, and the staff is the heartbeat of this home—compassionate, devoted, and brave.”

For Shoshana, a longtime resident, that dedication made all the difference:
“The bathroom in my room was damaged by the blast, and that very night, they came and fixed it. I spent the night in the shelter and felt completely safe.
My family said, ‘Come stay with us,’ but I told them, ‘No, thank you. My home is here.’ Everyone is giving their all, and it warms the heart. I’ve never seen such loyalty. Kol hakavod.”

Even in moments of fear and uncertainty, WIZO’s Parents’ Home provided not just shelter, but stability, warmth, and care.

At the same time, the WIZO Elderly Home continued caring for 36 dependent seniors and more than 70 independent residents, ensuring their physical safety and emotional well-being with tireless commitment from staff and volunteers.
