Rescue and Resilience: Empowering Children Beyond Violence

WIZO, the Women’s International Zionist Organization, continues its legacy of social impact with Rescue and Resilience—a powerful workshop designed to support children who have broken free from cycles of domestic violence
Created in partnership with the Israel Lifesaving Federation, the program offers more than just water safety training; it provides these children with a transformative experience that builds confidence, emotional resilience, and leadership skills.
Held simultaneously in Herzliya and Hadera, the workshop serves children aged 9–12 from WIZO’s “safety net” communities—families receiving long-term support after escaping domestic violence. Through hands-on maritime rescue activities and teamwork-based challenges, participants learn lifesaving techniques while also discovering their own strength and potential.
Led by trained instructors with expertise in trauma-informed care, the workshop creates a safe and supportive environment where children experience success, connection, and renewed trust in themselves and others. The experience empowers them not just as survivors, but as future protectors and leaders.

This initiative was spearheaded by World WIZO President Anat Vidor and is generously supported by WIZO Australia. “Thanks to WIZO Australia’s support, we are giving these children an empowering experience that combines personal resilience with Zionist values, reinforcing the unbreakable bond between Israel and the Diaspora,” said Vidor.
Currently, 18 children in Herzliya and 15 in Hadera are participating. The program also reflects a strong connection with the Australian community: lifesaving is deeply rooted in Australian culture, and several Israel Lifesaving Federation leaders, such as Paul Hakim and Lisa Segalov, are Australian immigrants.
In a recent show of support, Australian Ambassador Ralph King visited Herzliya beach to meet participants and celebrate the program’s impact. He praised the collaboration between the embassy, WIZO Australia, World WIZO, and the Israel Lifesaving Federation, emphasizing the shared commitment to saving lives and helping Israel’s most vulnerable children thrive.
