Women Power

In our daily work in our WIZO Day Care Centers, in our youth villages, in our women's shelters and in our Parents Home, we prove that women can achieve everything. This is the message I carried with me when I was invited by Atalia Oberman, founder of the Anitea Center for women in Ganei Tikva, to take part in a distinguished all-woman panel called "So What Do You Say?".

Each time I represent WIZO, I feel a great sense of responsibility, as Chairperson of one of the leading women's organizations in Israel and in the world, to encourage, strengthen and empower women I encounter.

Women always see our work as a source of strength and as an example of the power women have when we work together towards a shared goal.

At the opening of the event, Atalia shared her personal story. As a single mother of two young boys, she embarked on a journey of self-empowerment and the empower of other women by founding this center.

She invited three other women, each a leader in her own field; award winning Israeli military reporter on Kol Yisrael Carmela Menashe, leading Israeli theater and television actress Sandra Sade, and founder and CEO of All Club (a club of independent businesses) Etti Raz. Together we discussed key women’s issues on the panel.

The topics ranged from women's struggle to achieve work and life balance to our views on the #Metoo campaign and the term "glass ceiling".

I was delighted to share our WIZO expertise and expand upon our united mission as a global sisterhood to support other women.

When I was asked about my view on the "glass ceiling", I used WIZO as a perfect example to show how women can break the glass ceiling. I explained that when WIZO was founded in 1920, other Zionist organizations already existed. In fact, Zionist women already had the right to vote since the second World Zionist Congress in 1898 so their voices were heard. Despite this, three courageous and forward-thinking Jewish suffragists in the United Kingdom, who later became our founding mothers, were not discouraged from starting their own women's Zionist organization, where their voice as Zionist women, could be better heard and play a significant role in the establishment of the future State of Israel.

Ever since then, WIZO has continued to break every glass ceiling. We continues to do so by promoting equal rights for women, leadership at school and in the workplace, and providing equal opportunities in education from birth.

Through WIZO, women across Israel and the world know that nothing stands in their way to achieve their dreams.

I commend Atalia on holding this panel and sharing WIZO's message of solidarity with our fellow women's organizations and centers.

Poder Femenino
