History

WIZO Brasil was founded in 1926, in Rio de Janeiro, and had Mrs. Scylla Schneider as the first President. Short after, another group was criated in S. Paulo.

Nowadays, WIZO Brasil headquarters is located in Rio de Janeiro and congregates 13 Chapters spread through our huge country: Rio de Janeiro, S. Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco, Brasília, Bahia, Santa Catarina, Amazonas, Amapá and Rio Grande do Norte.

WIZO Brasil has about 1.500 activists and nearly 50 Aviv groups.

Despite the distance between the two countries, traditionally Brazil attends international Conferences held in Israel, such as EGM´s and Aviv Seminars, with a large and lively delegation. The same enthusiastic participation can be seen in other meetings, as, for example, the Latin America Congresses and local seminars.

Mission

One of WIZO Brasil missions is to work for the maintenance of Judaism in the new generations, transmiting jewish values and traditions and stimulating jewish education.

WIZO Brasil is also very much committed with Zionism, trying to strengthen the links between Brazil and Israel by promoting discussions and enlightening issues related to Israel.

And last but not least, WIZO Brasil aims to support World WIZO efforts and actions in order to advance the status of women and  improve the quality of life of israeli society.
