Shavuot Recipes

The chagim can be a wonderful break from routine; an opportunity to spend time with family and of course eat good food. We share with you some favorite recipes that are guaranteed to bring compliments from your guests.


Galatopita – Greek Milk Pie

500 gr. readymade filo pastry

5 eggs

10 tbsps. sugar

1 cup semolina

2 drops vanilla essence

1 tsp. butter

5 cups milk


  1. Place all ingredients except pastry in saucepan.
  2. Bring to the boil stirring continuously till thickened.
  3. In a bowl mix 100 gr. flaked or ground almonds (skinless), 1/2 cup sugar and plenty of cinnamon.
  4. Take 3 or 4 filo sheets. Place one filo sheet on a greased flat-bottom pyrex dish, brush with oil, sprinkle liberally with sugar, cinnamon and almond mixture.
  5. Continue with the rest of the sheets, making sure to brush each one with oil and sprinkle with almond mixture.
  6. Pour semolina cream over filo sheets and bake at 170 Celsius for approx. 30 minutes.

1 lemon jelly

1 serving size plain yogurt

1 8oz (226gr) carton Philadelphia cream

1 packet digestive biscuits (broken into large pieces) 

2 tbsps. melted Butter



  1. One lemon jelly, made according to instructions on the packet.
  2. When nearly set mix in the yogurt and Philadelphia cream.
  3. Crumb base: Blend in food processor the digestive biscuits (broken into large pieces) with 2 tbsps. melted butter.
  4. Pour filling over base and refrigerate till set.

175 gr. flour

3 tsps. baking powder

65 gr. sugar

65 gr. margarine or butter

1 egg yolk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tbsp. milk

Mix all the ingredients together and press into a round 8 inch (24cm) greased baking tin.

Cheese Filling:

1 large container of Philadelphia cream cheese 8 oz (226gr.)

1 small container of Philadelphia cream cheese 4 oz. (113gr)

1 container ricotta cheese 8 oz.

3 egg yolks

200 gr. sugar

65 gr. cornstarch

lemon juice (one lemon)

3 tsp. baking powder

3 egg whites beaten stiff and folded into cheese mixture

Pour cheese mixture onto base and bake for one hour and ten minutes at 170 degrees Celsius.



Noodle Kugel

12 ounce (340gr.) egg noodles cooked

1 small container of sour cream

6 eggs

1 stick butter (113gr.)

1 1/4 cup sugar

1 1/2 tsps. vanilla extract

2-3 tbsps. apricot jam

1 18 oz. (500gr.) cottage cheese with pineapple



Mix all ingredients and place in a large pyrex dish.


2 packages of cinnamon graham crackers crushed in food processor with 1/2 stick (113gr.) melted butter. Place the cookie crumbs on top of noodle mixture and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for one hour.
