Adi Center

Background

The city of Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev desert in the South of Israel, is home to a uniquely diverse society, consisting of Bedouin tribes, native Israelis, and Russian and Ethiopian immigrants.

The hub of WIZO activities for the benefit of the community in Be’er Sheva operates out of the WIZO Be’er Sheva Center. This facility houses two important projects: the local community center and second-hand shop (Bigudit) on the main floor, and the Adi Center on the upper level, which also houses community activities.

Day treatment facility for high-risk girls

The Adi Center is a rehabilitation and preventative program which WIZO provides for teenage girls at risk. 10-15 girls attend remedial and therapeutic programming and benefit from hands-on vocational training enabling them to prosper and lead mainstream and productive lives.

A partnership with WIZO’s Be’er Sheva branch in the same building gives the girls the opportunity to volunteer at the second-hand shop where they learn important life skills. Girls enrolled in the Adi Center program also receive clothes, as well as a range of free items donated to WIZO, such as toiletries and school supplies.
